Private chef for Christmas: frequently asked questions
What hosts ask us before booking a chef for the holidays.
How much does a private chef cost on Christmas Day?
A private chef for Christmas dinner on Chefpost costs $65 to $150 per guest, so about $520 to $1,200 for eight and $900 to $1,600 for ten, with groceries billed at cost on top. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve are among the most requested dates of the year, so expect the upper half of the range on those nights. New York and the Hamptons run higher.
Can I hire a private chef for Christmas Eve or Nochebuena?
Yes. Christmas Eve is the busiest single night of December on Chefpost. In Miami that usually means a Nochebuena menu, lechón asado with congrí, yuca and flan, served late. In New York and New Jersey it is often the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Book by the end of November for the widest choice of chefs.
Do private chefs work on Christmas Day?
Yes. Many chefs on Chefpost take Christmas Day bookings and it is one of the first dates to fill. The chef arrives three to five hours before dinner, cooks the roast and sides in your kitchen, serves, and cleans up. Chefpost needs 48 hours' notice on any booking, and Christmas week itself is possible but not guaranteed.
Can a private chef cater my holiday party?
Yes, for parties of roughly twelve to forty in a home or an office. The chef plans passed bites and two or three stations, batches a signature cocktail, and brings an assistant for larger groups. Cocktail-style formats start around $50 per guest. Past fifty seated guests, a catering company is the better fit.
Can I book a private chef for New Year's Eve?
Yes. New Year's Eve chefs cook a tasting menu paced to midnight, typically five courses with a champagne pairing for six to twelve guests, and dessert timed to the countdown. New Year's Eve 2026 is a Thursday. Book by mid-December; it is the second date of the season to fill after Christmas Eve.
Can a chef cook a Hanukkah dinner?
Yes. Hanukkah 2026 runs from sundown on Friday, December 4 through Saturday, December 12. Chefs in Boca Raton, Long Island, New Jersey and New York cook latkes to order, brisket, roasted chicken, kugel and sufganiyot, kosher-style in your kitchen and around your household's rules. Please note our chefs cook in your kitchen rather than provide certified-kosher catering.
How far in advance should I book a Christmas chef?
By the end of November for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and by mid-December for New Year's Eve. The most reviewed chefs in Miami and New York are typically booked by December 10. Chefpost needs 48 hours' notice on any booking, and the week of Christmas is possible but not guaranteed.
What is included when I hire a private chef for Christmas?
Menu planning around your traditions and dietary needs, grocery shopping, cooking the full dinner in your kitchen, serving plated or family-style, packing and labeling the leftovers, and cleaning the kitchen. The chef fee covers the chef's time; groceries are billed at cost.
Is a private chef the same as Christmas catering?
No. Christmas catering is cooked in a commercial kitchen and delivered in trays for you to reheat, plate, serve and clean up. A private chef cooks in your kitchen, serves the meal hot, and cleans. Catering scales better past fifty guests; a private chef is the better experience for six to twenty, and the better option for a holiday party of up to forty.
Can the menu handle dietary restrictions?
Yes. Gluten-free sides, dairy-free gratins, a plant-based centerpiece next to the roast, nut-free desserts, kosher-style cooking in your kitchen. Share every restriction at the table when you book so the chef can plan one menu that covers everyone.
Can I gift a private chef dinner for Christmas?
Yes. A Chefpost gift card covers a private chef dinner, a holiday meal prep session, or a cooking class, and the recipient books the date. It is the gift for the parents or in-laws who always host and never sit down. See
gift cards.
