Who books a private chef in Austin?
All kinds of hosts. Tech transplants in the Domain and Mueller book weekly meal prep, Westlake and Rollingwood families host milestone birthdays, and groups renting a Lake Austin house bring a chef in for the weekend. The most popular occasions are SXSW and ACL house parties, elevated backyard BBQ and cookouts, lake-house weekend dinners, birthday and milestone celebrations, tech-team and offsite dinners in private homes, and holiday hosting from Thanksgiving through New Year.
What does the price include?
Menu planning, all grocery shopping, cooking in your kitchen or on your grill, plating and serving each course, and full cleanup so your kitchen and patio are left the way the chef found them. You provide the space, plates, and glassware. There are no hidden fees, and gratuity is at your discretion.
Can a chef run my smoker and grill for a backyard BBQ?
Yes, and it is one of the most-requested things we do in Austin. Our chefs are comfortable running your smoker, your grill, or bringing gear when needed, so you can smoke brisket and ribs low and slow while you actually enjoy your own party. Tell us your setup and headcount and we will match you with a chef who knows Texas live-fire cooking.
Which Austin neighborhoods do your chefs serve?
Our chefs cover greater Austin and the surrounding hill country, including Downtown, Westlake, Tarrytown, Zilker, Barton Hills, East Austin, Hyde Park, Mueller, the Domain, Travis Heights, Clarksville, and Rollingwood. They also travel out to lake houses on Lake Austin and Lake Travis for weekend gatherings.
How far in advance should I book?
For a standard dinner, three to five days gives your chef time to plan and shop, and a bit more for a full smoked-meat cook that needs an early start. For SXSW, ACL, F1 weekend, and the holidays, book one to two weeks out because the best Austin chefs fill up fast. Last-minute requests are sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.
Can the chef cook Tex-Mex, farm-to-table, or plant-based menus?
Yes. Austin is a strong city for exactly this range, from Tex-Mex and taco spreads to seasonal farm-to-table tasting menus and New American plates, and many chefs also do fully plant-based and gluten-free menus. You can filter chefs by cuisine when you
browse profiles.
Do you offer weekly meal prep, not just events?
Yes. A
meal-prep chef comes to your home on a set day each week, cooks several days of meals, and leaves them portioned and labeled in your fridge. It is popular with busy Domain, Mueller, and Westlake households and usually runs $200 to $350 per week.
